Feed him.. they tend to eat at the bottom...

Try different kinds of food for different postures... big pieces, small pieces and different kinds of feeders.

The second round of shots are so much better, great job capturing the movement of the ray without any blurriness... can you give me some tips... was it adequate lighting and a fast shutter speed? Flash from the top or strong original lighting?

I would have gone for a white light rather than yellow to showcase the true colors and improve the contrast of the ray.

I love how the background is dramatically dark too.

I want to do some shots like these too... your ray is a fantastic poser. He must be hungry. Fatten him up a bit.

Thanks, gents!

I use 2 overhead flashes for these shots. Camera settings are: ISO 200, shutter speed 1/200th, and aperture F13-16 or so.

The light is white, the water is tinted from the driftwood. I'll have to get carbon to remove the colouration.

Thanks... oops... ya, I should have noticed the driftwood.

It's good that you are getting a new ray soon. Solitary rays tend to get more aggressive over time, especially wild caught ones.

Again - Great shots. Hope you continue to add to the collection of ray pics here.
