BRo , i once bought a 2 ft toman from ghim moh market to put in my 6x2.5ft fish tank . the uncle just put it in a plastic bag with out water and tied it up ..... i rushed home in my dads car .... about 10 mins later i put it in the tank .. it was still alive ..... but the way it swim makes the tank look vulnerable to breakage and i wouldant reccomend it ... i dont understand how yours died as tomans are by far one of the most hardy fish able to breate atmospheric air .....

I agree that tomans are by far one of the most hardy fishes around. And they can survive for a short period without water, being air breathers.

Did the farm worker use aged water to fill the bag? Were his hands clean? Was the plastic bag new and clean? All these factors, coupled with the highly stressful situation for the toman, could have led to its demise.

These guys grow big and violent.
I think it would be better to get a more managable snakehead like a rainbow instead or you may have to end up eating your pet fish again.

feeder toman are almost always available at serangoon north. what i'm wondering though, is- how smart is it to eat a fish when you don't know the cause of it's death?

okay so i've been an avid Fisherman for quite some time already
and has always been fascinated by the Toman / Channa Micropletis .

so a week back i decided to get a small one for rearing , like a foot long .
i was free today and decided to go KhaiSeng Fish farm ( Neo Tiew )
to source for one .
reached there in the afternoon , as expected majority of them are giants .
i was itching to get one but i know my tank couldn't keep a big daddy .

and there it was !
a small Toman amongst the giant , it looked pretty good and active too .
not that brightly colored yet as it was still small ,
around 12 to 14 inches long . i tried netting it myself ,
finally got it after a long time pushing away those giants .

told the uncle i wanted to keep it , so he put it in the big plastic ,
filled water till SLIGHTLY fully covered the fish , and pump some air inside .

i was very happy and took a cab home from Kranji MRT ,
total journey probably took an hour .

i didnt really take note of the fish while traveling back ,
when i reached home , i took the bag out and laid it on the floor ,
not moving much but i thought it was normal , stress and stuff .

so i started filling up my tank to the appropriate level ,
but SUDDNELY , i took a glance at my Toman ,
damn it was tilting sideways !

i started to panic and immediately shake the bag a bit ,
but it was still slanting .
i then opened the bag and slide the fish inside my tank .
god damn it was flipping the otherway , overturned .
not a single movement and looked almost dead .
i tried carrying it up and let it breath air but it wasnt opening its mouth .
i prayed for the worst , the fish is dead , but i kept hoping for a miracle .
after an hour i finally accepted the fact that its already dead .

i then cooked it , not to waste it anyways .

i was really very sad and puzzled as to why it happened .
it was totally fine when it reached home , such a sudden change .
they are such hardy fishes for gods sake , i was really heartbroke .
had i released the fish into the tank earlier , it might have already been swimming happily right now , so near yet so far .

perhaps the water too little ?
not enough atmosphere air ?
too stress and exhausted ?

i dont know what to do now , if i was to try buying another Toman ,
i already got phobia that the same thing might happen again .
thus im now considering getting some beautiful Rainbow ..

any inputs ??
pet to be.....food to u it be.....haiz

yes on all accounts .
he did pump Oxygen from the Oxygen tank .

thanks guys ,
i dont know whether to get them feeders or other types of Channa now .
or maybe even get another Toman from fishfarm , im in a dilemma right now.

i've always wanted to keep a Toman , and my tank is alright for it .
its a 6 footer .
i just dont feel the same keeping other species of Snakehead .

and yes i did eat the fish , what did you expect me to do otherwise ?
