main reasons for a sump is that you can maximize the amount of live rock, the best type of filtration you can have in a SW tank. also refigiums are easy to setup in sumps. protein skimmers are also best setup in-sump [some can only sit in-sump]. these three methods are the backbone of SW filtration.

u can get a 1.5ft tank, and diy your own sump using plastic separators
