WiNd.feNg : yes... but is pump specific! Prob now is, I need to know how to calculate wad flowrate is more recommended for wad size of tank I always believe in higher flowrate coz I usually very anal abt wad i can see. Wait... u guys no need factor in the size of the sump?? so it's true sump can use lower f/r as compared? |

though not scientific, i'd just follow someone else... if something is proven to be working, dont ask questions, just follow...

Volume of water at 95% for tank is 1008.79 litres + approx 170 litres for a 4ft sump at 70%. Total volume = 1179 litres. Target turn over rate (exclude reduction from pipes' bend) 5 times = 5895 litres per hour 6 times = 7074 litres per hour 7 times = 8253 litres per hour Higher turn over rate is better esp for rays and tigers. Example of pumps for ur tank Aquabee UP 7000 / 7000l/h 5,0m 125 Watt: power consumption 230 V/125 W pump output: 7000 l/h max. pump head: 5.0 m Dimensions: (length x width x height) 14.5 cm x 9.0 cm x 12.5 cm hose connectors suction side and pressure side 25/34 mm or Eheim 1262 + Eheim 1264 = 180 watts or 7900 litre per hour Ehiem 1262 Specifications - Pump Output: 3,400 l/h - Delivery Head: 3.6 m - Power Consumption: 80 W - Dimensions: 218 x 116 x 161 mm (length x width x height) - Weight: 3 kg Ehiem 1264 Specifications Pump Output: 4,500 l/h - Delivery Head: 3.5 m - Power Consumption: 100 W - Dimensions: 218 x 116 x 161 mm (length x width x height) - Weight: 4.5 kg or can consider RIO HF too http://www.arofanatics.com/forums/sh....php?p=8894811 or if budget not an issue can consider Abyzz Pump - A200 Other factors u wan to consider is the consumption, quietness and reliability of the pump |

my 5x2.5x2 IOUS using ehiem 1262 only.. but very efficient.. no poop can stay in the tank w/o getting filtered.. livestock is 1 x xb, 2 x ray.. water always crystal clear.. and fish appetite very good..

I guess the general rule of thumb is 7x but placement of the flow n circulation of water in the tank is more impt. No pt u got high flow pump but dead spots everywhere

What abt pipe sizes...??
Inlet pipe should be able to take up the pump flowrate, otherwise there will be additional head loss due to smaller pipe. Also the return pipe is using gravity, what size to ensure sufficient return without flooding the top tank? my current 6X2.5X2ft tank, i'm using a MeBner 6000L/hr with 1" pipe going up then reduced to 2X 1/2" to shoot out the water. Also return pipe is using 1.5" pipe which i find is the limit for this pump cap. if higher pump cap used, i'm sure the return will not be able to cope. I estimate the actual flowrate minus the head loss is ard 4000-4500L/hr... |

Turn over rate is a rule of thumb, usually less bio load fish 6X will be sufficient. High bio load fish good to have 10X. Having said that sometime it also depend on your tank and pond size. Huge one is good to consider splitting your pump into two one at each end to have maximum circulation.
