Default 622 IOS + stackable OHF setup.

Hi bros,

I'm seeking for advice and assistance with regards to my current setup. Despite all my efforts, I still cannot get pristine crystal clear water. I mean my water is not cloudy (bac bloom) nor is it green (algae bloom). It's just that I see quite a bit of particles and suspended matter in the water, and it's driving me crazy.

Previously it was micro bubbles, but after putting jap mat before the OHF outlet and extending the outlet all the way down to the bottom, I don't have problems already. But I'm still getting "dusty" water.

My tank is a 622 with black oyama back, white bottom and IOUS compartment.

Here's how I arrange (following the flow of water), from top to bottom:
1. Black bio-sponge.
2. 2 layers of Jap mat.
3. Ceramic rings.
4. Egg crate partition.
5. Bacteria housing.
6. Egg crate partition.
7. Jap mat.

Underflow to the pump compartment. Bottom to top:
1. 2 layers of Jap mat
2. Pump to OHF.

OHF arrangement of 4 trays X 3 layers. Top to bottom:
1. Oyster and cockle shells.
2. Ceramic Rings.
3. Ceramic Rings.

Water flows back into the tank.

Please advise! Thank you all in advance!

Hi....your OHF oyster shell and cockles shell will drop particles into the tank, causing the fine particles floating around.
These 2 should soak at the bottom of your IOS, so that the chips and particles will settle down. This should solve your problem.

btw, why you created an extra L-joint from the IOS to the OHF? this just reduce the flow rate.

How long has this setup been running? There's no doubt you have that problem as I could hardly see any mechanical filtration!

mechanical filtration should be done at ios (i presume) since your first layer of OHF is OS. If I am you, I will get at least Mr.Aqua media to pack the OHF trays.

1st top OHF layer => Wool
2nd layer => Mr.Aqua CRs
Last layer => CC, OS etc

Mechanical => Biological => Chemical

Ditto, this would be the proper setup for the challenge you're facing.. Either way, this should be the rule of thumb
