Lionhead :

No dorsal fin
Tail symmetrical
Head very pronounced - baby face
Back from straight to slightly slope

Ranchu:

No dorsal fin
Tail lower loops more toward the body
Head less pronunced - good specimen has two cheeks
back arched at the peduncle

Most of the fish you see nowadays are ranchus. The traditional line of Lionhead is hard to find nowadays. Recently both Qian Hu and Mainland fish farms had some very nice Lionhead.
