I personally believe very strongly in the theory of genes in terms of fish colouration more over diet or environment though the latter has an impact on fish pigmentation too. I'll try to post some pics of my short gilled, deep bodied red kelah (another type of red) - the malaysians call it Kelah Merah Bara. 1st pix : Indian golden mahseer 2"
