Default 3ft tank malawi tank recommandation

Hi guys,

i am new to Malawi cichlids, and will like to start a tank.

currently my existing set up which i will like to convert is

: Sudo river rand
: 1200L/hour canister filter

May i know if the fitler is sufficent and if the sand is suitable?

may i also enquire what fishes are recommanded to be kept tog? (will like to have colours such as red, blue and yellow)

thanks!

Hi, I think u should watch most of Bolly's you tube videos as he is good in Malawi cichlids >>>

http://www.youtube.com/user/bolly12345

As far as filter is concerned. I think I read it somewhere it's best to have 6X more than you tank capacity....example...if you tank is 3ft, so it should be around 140 litres, so 140 X 6 = 840 litres. Hence your filter 1200 l/hr should be enough. However, it also depends much on yr feeding schedules as well as your number of fishes. Malawi cichlids are very restless = eat a lot = poop a lot.

IMO.

u can keep peacocks and hap
these are more peaceful than mbunas but get bigger than 4inches
and also avoid mixing females so the aggression is lessen.

some smaller ones:
yellow peacock - 4-5 inch
sulphur head peacock 4 inch
deep water hap - 6inch
Zebra obq hap (victorian) - 5inch
yellow lab (peaceful mbuna) - 4-5 inch
blockhead (congo river) - 4inch

these are the smaller ones i can think of
