suggestions for diy "sump"?
hey guys! planning to do a diy "sump" after exams
was planning to use those rubber manual hand pumps to pump water out to a 2x1x1 and using a electronic return pump...will be cutting the end of the rubber pump in the main tank to just a few inches so in the event the electronic pump fails....the flooding wont be that bad...but I am wonder if there is a better way to do it! planning to make the 2x1x1 into a huge moving bed filter system...my tank is currently running on OHF and there are no holes drilled for sump system... will appreciate any suggestions to make this work out!! thanks in advance! |

Suggest you read up & try to understand how the overflow system for sump tank works.
Only as much water pumped up to the main tank will flow down/return to the sump tank. |

previously i had 8 ITs, 3 PBs, 2spotted gars, 1ff, 1 endi (all less than 5")...added 1 10" motoro and the motoro refused to eat for 2 weeks....because i didnt have the test kits...presumed the high bioload was the problem...sold off my 8ITs and immediately my ray started eating....hence ive decided to improve on the filter system my tank is 4x2.5x2 running on OHF with ceremic and glass rings @ 3000L/H + 0.5x1.5L bottle of bioballs as moving filter bed system. hoping to make a huge K1 reservoir using my spare tanks Quote:
thanks! |

A simplified diagram.
Don't need to drill holes to your existing tank Just a few PVC pipes. There is a few threads previously with very detailed pictures & discussion. Maybe you want to search for those to read up too. |

Many threads on ~~ DIY overflow pipes ~~
.....with very detailed discussion & diagram and photos. I think if you DIY with PVC pipes, cost less than $20. |

The CPR design not too good as well as it require a lifter pump to siphon and start the flow. Had search the web for review and there is mix comments. I am currently studing this www.lifereef.com/siphon.html. It mentioned it will auto start during a power failer and there is no need for the lifter pump. Comments I search on web is good. But the cost is above US$200 excluding frieght charges. haiz... I should had request to have the hole drilled for sump set-up when building the tank. Let me know if you are successful in your conversion so I can learnt from you |
