Journal of my 1st 6ft planted

Was told to put plastic on top of the soil to prevent milky water when adding water.

And it works.....!!!!


But I had forgotten to wash the driftwoods and it soil my tank badly.



Took me about a day to clear up the milky water....

Bought used CO2 tank from another good bro here....


Changed the driftwoods layout to the below as the finalized ones....



Bought alot of plants (which I know nothing about the type and nature..I know about hairgrass)....and started planting after it cycled about 3-4days...

Very nice & bright coloured plants but it actually melts off in 4-5days times....
On CO2 and lights for 6 hours aday doesn't help....

bro, u r bold....thumbs up for u. first attempt n u go for 6ft.

some thoughts from my earlier experience in keeping planted, technically a larger tank is easier to control in terms of PH etc. but bigger tanks also require a lot more plant mass else u will hv problems. my bro in law did a 5ft on his first attempt, he failed quite badly. his proportion of plants vs tank size was not there. his choice of plants also also wrong, but he insisted he was right...wahaha~~

another thing which struck me, not too sure if the JEBO is sufficient for circulating the water within the tank. u may wan to look out for dead spots when it's running full steam.

go look for an earlier thread which was posted earlier of a planted tank at a LFS, think it was a 5ft. that should give u some idea

It's a long long road bro....
As for Jebo, it's running on 1500l/Hr and my tank is about 500l...so about 3 cycles/ hr should be enough...@least this is what the shop told me....

Anyway it's already there n started...no more stopping...I can only go by trial n errors and ask for more advise here....

some of the plants you got are not fully submerged plants. they will melt away if fully submerged.

sorry for being direct here but i got a feeling that you didnt plan your scape in the initial stage. you have quite afew sp. of foreground plants which will "clash" with each other once they start spreading.

it will be great to have one focus plant (eg a red plant) as the main focal point. try keep to no more than 4 sp. of plants in your tank to avoid the "rojak" look.

i made the same mistake as you when i just started with planted tank by trying out too many sp. at one go.

Finally added Tetras after about 1 1/2 weeks...
The fish are ok but not the Shrimps....Balance <10 from 30...poor things..

tell me abt the road.....wahahaha~~~ most of us will go thru that.
take what the shops tell u with a pinch of salt.....

yr tank is 6ft long. try putting yr hands on the other end of the tank to see if you can feel the current now. do it again when it's heavily planted. cycle per hour is 1 thing.....in actual practice, theory may not work. wahaha~~ that;s just me.

just post more pics n we'll help u out as u get along.

i am super god damn tempted to start planted again!!! a 4ft in my new hse but my OC is not easy get around. haiz~~~~

Thanks for the advice bro...but can let me know which is which cos I really have no ideas at all...pai say.. I just plant according to "feel" hehehe...

eg, which will clash so it's better to split them apart...etc..

Some of the plants really melted away..like the colourful red & green/white plants..... **sad**
