Just to clear some misconception here, the venom of tarantulas aren't particularly potent. Many tarantulas depend mainly on their size and large fangs to overpower they're prey. They are not likely to attempt to eat a healthy adult bird simply because birds are too fast and strong, attacking it could result in it being injured itself. Of course the same can't be said for nestlings which are pretty much defenseless against a large hungry spider.
