A protien skimmer is a must for all tanks even a 1 footer, unless you are using a sump.

hmm is this true? coz as far as i know if less than 2ft as long as ur water changes are regular(at least once a week) you can get away with no skimmer. the thing is with so little volume of water using a skimmer is quite a waste. pls correct me if wrong but my nano tank been running almost 6 mths without skimmer liao.

Protein skimmers are highly recommended but not a must. I've seen successful setups that don't run with a skimmer.

Protein skimmers just remove wastes in the water, therefore aiding in filtration and nutrient export. However, i read that they also skim out the useful stuff like trace elements.

You can try looking at those airpump driven skimmers, some of them are very compact and can fit into a 1.5' tank without taking up too much space.

from its name, i think a multi skimmer skims the surface as well, unlike a PS. it is good 4 tk w/o a o/f box.

does your tank have a euro bracing? i assume it doesnt, can get weipro skimmer can hang outside..
as newbie tense to overstock their fishtank easily.. getting a gd skimmer is important..2ndly unless you stock your fish tank like 1 fish per 6months and feed real little,a skimmer is a must!
