good to put in sump if there is additional space... this act as a refugium to get rid of nutrients but u must make sure there is sufficient lighting and u must prune or harvest yur chaeto from time to time.... I've heard of a product called "Algone" (its like dried plants in a sachet and u can put in the sump also) and they say its effective to remove nitrate/ammonia..... only thing its costly.... once it suck up the nutrients the sachet becomes bloated and time to change a new one....

For testkits, you would need at least these few to begin with:
- Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, pH, Calcium, kH

Equipment wise, really depends on what your goal is. Fishes or a reef tank.
For a start, you would need to get these pieces of equipment:
- Marine Salt(Not needed if natural seawater is used)
- Hydrometer
- Thermometer(Optional for fishes)
- Lighting(Depends on setup)
- Wavemaker/Powerhead
- Fan/Chiller(More for reef tank, needed to keep temperatures down)
- Protein Skimmer(Optional but good to have)

A fishtank is just like your computer. When your tank crash(OS crash), its time to cleanup(reformat hard drive) and setup(install OS) again and add new livestock(re-install software).
