Default Red lace cobra head changing colour?!

Hi all,
I'm very new to guppy and had recently purchased a pair of red lace cobra. Normally the males face/head is dull.. But today, his face turned black for awhile, back to normal and now it's black again..! However I observed that when it's black, he was always energetically chasing the female.. Is he ok??? Or is something wrong?

Like any other males in the animal kingdom, the colours may be its way to attract the female so that he can get lucky.

I thought so initially, but couldn't find anything on the subject on grandpa google. I'll just wait and see for now! Thanks!

I tried taking pictures but hes all over the place! Maybe I'll try again this evening. This morning his black head is gone again until i turn on the light.. Within minutes, head black again..

Do metal heads change color frequently? Isn't it a fixed trait?

Thank you!

Like what Cartoon has mentioned, perhaps your strain has the strong metal genes.
