Why my shrimp keep dying?

Hi all,

I have a 2ft tank which I keep abt 15 cardinal tetra for > 1 yr. Also have java ferns as backdrop.

The funny thing is those shrimp I brought (4 pcs a dollar type) do not last long. Always find 1 or 2 turning pink after buying back home.

My water temperature is 29 deg. Is this too warm for shrimp? I use an Eheim hanging filter to minimise heat built up.

Read that Java fern is poisonous could the shrimp have died eating?

Change water every 2 weeks am not sure wat went wrong. The cardinal wun attack shrimp rite cos I feed them once aday.

i guess u forgot to add a chiller for the shrimps.

did u add fertillizer or CO2 ? my fish tank had the same thing happening, but puffer tank all lasted at least 1-2 weeks....

Maybe they last longer with predetors around

Nope. No CO2 and fertilizer for my tank.

Dat was wat I suspect cos when I throw in a block of ice into tank, the fish n shrimp seems to become livelier!

How much will a chiller cost me and can I get second hand type?

perhaps u can try a fan first? shd be able to bring down a few degrees... at abt 25degrees, your shrimps shd survive well le..

yar temp use a fan to bring the temp down 1st bro

Pls do not use ice....they create temperature and a possible PH shock !

Do u stay near clementi ? At polyart, they clearing some stuff....the Fans are going for like 50% off....normal price ard $25-30.

Else custom build one from SLS, they use the same PC fans. only that PC fans are quiter but do not have the tank holder and AC converter.
