Default Sheer waterfall with LED light - in stainless steel

Does anyone know where can I get this in Singapore ?

I was told stainless steel sheer waterfall is algae proof unlike acrylic or stone where algae or moss can still grow on them.

Heheh no such thing as algae proof.

Plenty of algae growing on the 316L stainless steel grab bars in my pond.

About paint.

1. The paint will be covered with algae sooner or later. A black paint makes the algae less visible from the start.

2. Black makes the koi stand out more against the rest of the pond

If you plan on using epoxy paint, I recommend sourcing out Nippon Paint EA9 for primer and main coat. This paint is meat for use on potable water systems, and is completely non toxic after curing.

I copied someone design on the web and did some minor amendment.

Where should I put the biomedia as well as the oyster shell ?

For a 5 chamber filter like this how do I size each chamber ? All chamber equal size (20%) or chamber 1 - 20%, chamber 2 - 25%, Chamber 3 - 25%, Chamber 4 - 15%, chamber 5 - 15%

Equipments :
1 x Hiblow 40
1 x tsurumi OM3 (rated 2610 gph - main pond)
1 x ECOSUB 400 (rated 1440 gph - waterfall)
1 x surface skimmer (new, any recommendation ?)
2 x aerated bottom drain (new, any recommendation ?)
1 x UV light (40W ? Do I do inline or submersible in my last chamber 5 ?)

The volume of the pond will be around 1100 gal, with my combine flow of 2 pump can I safely said that my flow rate is not a problem ? How do I size all the piping from BD to chamber 1, drain pipe, TPR pipe ? I understand pipe size will affect flow rate but how to calculate ?

Bro..some general info based on ponds I had.

Bottom drain, I recommend use 4 inch pipe.
The rest of the pipe, I use 2 inches, including output pipe from pump.

For the connecting to waterfall, you can reduce the vertical pipe to 1.5inch if needed.
For me, I use 2 inch pipe all the way, including the water fall. The vertical pipe length is about 5ft. No issue on water pressure loss.

I recommend use Tsunami as it is most reliable so far for me.

I would not recommend aerated bottom drain for your case, as the air bubble will affect your viewing.

You need to have a calm water surface for viewing pleasure.
For air bubbles in main pond, you can put at the side of the pond wall. In your case, I suggest on the left wall, so that it will help in "pushing" the water towards the surface skimmer. surface skimmer is importance for koi pond.

for your standing drain pipe, they should not be connected in single discharge. Each should have their own discharge.

Are you in Singapore?

I guess you're pretty much set on the traditional brushes and mats system.

Do take a look at different koi sites to see what a sieve can do before committing 100% They make a huge difference by physically removing debris from the water before it has a chance to dissolve and contaminate the water.

btw on bottom drain, 4" is definitely recommended. I think that you will do ok with a single one since your pond isn't very large.

I think your planned pump capacity may be a little low. You need to do at least 3000gph through the bottom drain alone to keep the line clear of settled crap - especially if you go with 4".

Consider using 2x Tsurumi PU2.15S rated at about 3000gph each. There will be losses due to head, which will reduce your final flow rate. 2" plumbing should be sufficient since your pond is relatively compact. I wouldn't go below 2".

I agree with NutX that a 24x7 aerated bottom drain is probably not going to help visibility - that's a problem I currently have with my own pond. His suggestion to use side wall bubblers is a good one.

Your pond do not have an overflow pipe in the pond to the drain. I suggest that you should have one overflow pipe to the drain.

Ha ha, not 100% yet but 80%. I am visiting the Ultima reseller next week as he wants to show me a koi pond using their bead filter.

Will update what I learn after the trip next week.

As promised, the visit to the 6 ton koi pond using Ultima was fantastic.

The system (Ultima 4000) has been in placed for 18 month and the koi are huge (easily above 65cm). Water is crystal clear like watching HD TV. The owner backwash the system around 2 time per week but he mentioned he has ever stretched it to 2 week once when he is busy travelling. Each time the backwash take 15min and it is hands dry ! There is no pre-filter, the bottom drain goes directly into the Ultima. He is using a dry pump and there is a strainer but it was clear all the time. He has a chamber for Oyster shell and of course UV steriliser.

As our pond are both in-door (sheltered), there is hardly any large debris (like falling leaves) falling into the water. So he doesn't think a pre-filter is needed (since his pond has never needed one for solid debris) He has tested his water regularly in the beginning for ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate and all are perfect, since then the pond has been trouble free.
We discussed to further polish the water maybe we add in a bakki shower or trickle tower. As mine is a smaller 4 ton pond, we are planning to use submersible pump as it is more readily available and can run 24x7x365. Most dry pump cannot run 24 hour non-stop unless the high end one which is not easily found in Singapore. The owner actually ordered his from Australia.

Does anyone knows where can I buy a bakki shower or trickle tower or who can customise one if they are not off the shelf in Singapore ? My idea is to integrate it into the Waterfall wall. If I am using airstone do I still need to do venturi ?
