Default Getting a new Cover for an existing tank

hi bros,

ive got a 4ft rimless shallow (17") tank with an animal bean and sump setup

it was for a marine tank that i am slowly decommissiong and i am considering to restart the marine tank or go back to Aro or general freshwater

but for me to go back to Aro, i would have to invest in a cover.. i am not too sure of my options when it comes to cover and im thinking of going back to the tank maker .. or even DIY myself.. for diy im thinking of laying pvc into a frame... and in the middle of the frame holding a simple netting or those plastic mesh..

any bros could help me with some options i could consider? getting 3-4 acrylic boards?

You can get those plastic egg-crate light covers. Cheap and good

Get something that allows air flow movement and heat escape.

DIY a simple hood with wood. join 4 pc of wood to form a rectangle to fit nicely around the top, then add a 2 inch plank inside, all 4 sides, then the hood can sit on your tank by these planks and you can put glass cover on these planks as tank cover. Paint it to match the cabinet. Sld look good.

you can use eggcrates and use your existing light set to sit on the eggcrate.

on worry once your aro very big, it might jump and push the eggcrate away while it jumps out, some more yours is a short tank

Bro, you have to invest into something heavy and ,durable

Honest, my 6-yr-old 26" red jumped so hard that one of the 4 pieces of the glass top sank to the bottom of the 422 tank.

Fortunately, it didn't landed vertically.

Aros are pretty strong.

hey guys,

i just spoke to my tank maker and he said he is able to custom make a hood/cover for me...

the problems are that my tank is braceless and shallow.. so he will be making a wood cover and a low profile cover..

but because of this.. i am unable to put on top light and have to use submersible lighting..

so i am currently looking around for a submersible led set before committing to building the cover/hood

thanks to everyone for your input and advice

thanks to all the bros here for your kind advice.

i decided to go ahead with the hood and submersible led lights..

its a low profile design to match the shallow tank

just sharing a shallow, braceless tank, with an beananimal overflow, covered with a top wood hood

hope this design may help someone in future
