Default [Breaking] SMRT Trains Collide

An SMRT train collided with a stationary train near the Joo Koon MRT station Wednesday morning (15 November), causing injuries to 25 people, including 23 passengers and two SMRT staff members.

In a Facebook post, SMRT said that “23 passengers and 2 SMRT staff sustained light to moderate injuries, and have been conveyed to Ng Teng Fong Hospital and National University Hospital.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in Facebook post that they were alerted to the incident at 8.33am and had sent the passengers to hospitals.

According to SMRT, a train heading in the direction of Tuas Link Station stalled at Joo Koon Station. At 8.19am, a second train stopped behind the first faulty train, but a minute later, the second train moved forward unexpectedly and came into contact with the first train.

SMRT and the Land Transport Authority are investigating the incident, the train operator said.

Earlier, SMRT announced on Twitter that commuters should expect 30 minutes added train travel time between Jurong East and Joo Koon stations, only saying that a train fault had occurred.

One commuter posted on social media that she was on the train that crashed into the one in front. Facebook user Mei Anne said she and fellow passengers “all fell” on their backs and that she was in pain as a result.

“At 8.33 am, SCDF was alerted to an incident near Joo Koon MRT Station. SCDF resources are at the scene attending to the injured. 23 injured passengers have already been conveyed to the hospitals, majority sustained minor injuries,” the SCDF said in its Facebook post.

Yahoo News Singapore has reached out to SMRT for more information on the incident.

Ignore any other reasons as of now because I think a person in SG would not think of such a sabotaged act.

The main culprit probably are the sensors, but i also think there should be some people manning the monitors at the control station or HQ.... normally managed via CCTV to act as double supervision or security in case of a faulty sensor.

Sometimes I wonder, will these issues be solved if LKY is still alive and in charge?
