Just wanna add that this particular wild strain is highly sought after due it its brilliant color and size. It exhibits some red coloration on its back in the form of red spottings, unlike the patchy red of the Manacapuru.
Also, its body displays a clear distinct goldish tone with occasionally a slight bluish tinge under certain condition. But perhaps the most distinct feature of the SI is its yellow/orangy finnnage which is visible when the fish reaches adulthood. Some of the juveniles from my batches already displayed some red speckles on their back. The yellowish coloration on the finnage is still very faint at this age. It has relatively high body form with long straight finnage. In a resting position, the angle between the dorsal and anal fins is roughly about 160 degree. It should also have a sharp snout but a smooth curve on its forehead (different from Suriname). Lastly, the SI is perhaps the biggest of the wild strains that I've seen so far, apart from Altum. That said, a full grown adult SI can be just as large as the Altum. The alpha male in my broodstock is easily as large as a matured male Altum, standing at about 12-13 inch tip to tip. The SI belongs to a large breed scalares. And for this reason, the growth rate of the SI is relatively fast compared to all the other wild strains that I've bred before.... Hope the above infor helps .... Last edited by CheckerBox; 27-11-2014 at 05:41 PM. |
