Lightbulb Never washed sump, fearing biobacter wipeout.

First time clean sump tank today.

Used main tank water to rinse media & wash/drain the sludge in sump compartment. Daren't use tap water to cleanse.

Cleaned first compartment only, next week do middle compartments, pump compartment will do the week after that.

Anyway Doc, how often must we do cleaning for medias in sump? Or rather how long can the media last/hold BB till it needs to be washed?

Dr ong try not to clean your compartment at such a short interval.
For me 3 months interval for each compartment why we need to clean the medias so the pores of the media won't get stuck with sludge.

Water is able to flow thru the media then the effectiveness of cultivating good bacteria is optimize.

yes, will do that. you are right that too short an interval may disrupt the ecosystem too much.
shall clean other tanks first.
