Thinking of buying a second hand car? Think carefully. Sometimes not worth it. Go for new veh better if u can afford. After 10yrs, renew Coe can only renew 1 time, 5yr or 10yrs. Half yrly need to go inspection, chances of breakdown higher. My current company veh just broke down twice in just 1 month, repairs cost 10k. Now become high fuel consumption after repairs, going to ask them check at next servicing, which is just 3000km away. The silly thing is Coe going expire in Sept 17. I was hoping it broke down nearer to Sept, so can give boss excuse to buy new veh for me to drive. |

10 years, can renew 10 years more and can renew again. If the car owner renews 5 years than he can't renew again. Inspection for above 110 years old car is once a year.
Cost of repairs may still work out to being cheaper than new car. I did my maths and it works out to be cheaper. I bought a 10years old and renewed 10 years. Throw in $5-10k repairs, it is still cheaper. Depreciation (including repair cost and even repaint) + road tax (even at 150%) + insurance works out to below $10k/year. The problem is, are we able to handle the breakdowns or be able to anticipate potential faults before it breakdown? For me, I've had several old cars, including 1 that was 26 years old when I bought it back then. I am quite prepared for breakdowns and able to tolerate faults. I was quite happy without a car for a year plus. I gotten it again recently more for a need than a want (practical reason so get a practical car). So I had to do my sums so I don't stretch myself too much. The car helps me generate a bit of income (not Uber or Grab). If I Base my affordability on 15% (which I agree with), I probably can't quite afford. But if I deduct what I generate from monthly operating cost, I can still afford. Mid term, I am working to reduce the cost by increasing income. A car is a liability unless it generates positive income vs cost. Last edited by globalcookie; 02-06-2017 at 12:01 AM. |

Car Insurance Renewal
When you receive your renewal notice, do you renew without checking if you are quoted higher premium for your renewal? - Direct Asia sent me a renewal notice, at $687.15. - I got an online quote from them at the same time, at $459.81. - (FWD quoted $1031.) I went ahead to renew based on the lower price, which the renewal premium is nearly 50% higher than online quote. I can't understand why nearly 50% higher for renewal. |

Sometime its gimmicks for policy holder to have a lower first year premium in hopping that they will not check and just go ahead for the renewal the follow up, sometime could be the rate went up due to overall high claim amount at the previous year.

What’s your take on Mazda5 based on recent $106888 for base, no frills model? Vs perhaps KIA Carens 1.7 diesel at $111999? I know Maz5 is an “old” model, dull n unexciting but at this price point, can condsider a value buy? What say you? |
