Once voted into public office, the candidate being given mandate by the residents has a moral duty to explain why he is stepping down after securing a victory.......

If he is serious and has the responsibility, he should return the trust given by the residents with a clear explanation.......

as a matter of fact, Mr Ong should respect the voters, office and the system with proper closure and not just closed by an exchange of letters within the party......The residents who voted for him have the right to know as much as he has to explain to his party chief.......

furthermore PAP should also answer to the voters as Mr Ong is a PAP candidate whom according to PAP, all their candidates have gone thru strict selection process and carefully selected to be placed in every constituencies.....

If due to wrong doing as it looks like, the party shld foot the bill for the by-election or lose the right to nominate.
They put up a lemon, they shld take responsibility more than just verbal.
