Default digital thermometer and traditional alcohol glass thermometer

i have a problem. I have a boyu digital thermometer just bought with new

battery and it reads 25 degrees celcius. But the traditional alcohol glass

thermometer reads 27+- degrees celcius. So now which is the correct

temperature. Cause I don't want to go thinking like okay my tank temperature is

from 25 to 27+- degrees. That is a very big gap to me. Thanks.

when buying a thermometer... look at all the rest of the thermometer (different brand) compare the temp. Compare, and get one with the most similar reading.

Using the Mathematic normal curve concept

For better judgment, get a calibrated digital thermometer... else no way to find out.

Realise that these equipment are cheap and will not be very accurate...

what is a mathematical curve concept? sorry. im a language guy not a

math/science guy. I did compare when buying the digital thermometer and all

had same reading regardless of brand and size and whatsoever. But my alcohol

thermometer was the 1st thermometer in my tank so ya. Im alittle confused.

frankly i do not trust those cheapo digi thermometer...

i rather stick to alcohol-in-thermometer... furthermore maintainance-less. no need to change battery.

unless i using some reputable brand such as pinpoint of those that sold at sim lim towers.

i think this is a normal distrbution curve. those in at the peak are the higher frequency of accuracy where those in the mid curve are the lesser accurate reading and those at the foot of the curve and away from the peak are outliers,

so i think limsteel is refering the plus minus must be near the peak if not the thermometer is not accurate...

i dunno if i explain it well, correct me if i am wrong...

I think no need so accurate go for digital w/precision 0.1 or 0.01.
If you worry marking error, go to jalan besar opposite holan building (ocbc) there is a shop selling medical equipment, buy a big scale analogue one think costs you about $10 sure accurate.

yes very.. i always find that digital thermometer(cheapo ones) are very inaccruate.
i ever bought 3 differnt brands of mercury thermometer and test.
the difference is only ranging from 0.5 ~ 1C. nothing more than that..
nice looking and in expensive too.. no/low maintaince too! don't really know why most people are using digital thermometer though.
