Default Is a Rio 20HF too powerful for my 4ft OHF?

I have a 4x2x2 that is currently running on a TOM800 which is 3200L/H at 0 height. I'm thinking about upgrading to a Rio 20HF but i'm afraid it might be too powerful and my OHF will overflow at the sides cos' the outlet can't let out water into the tank fast enough. My OHF has 6 trays at the moment, I did some research and found this chart online. The pump will probably need to pump water up to a height of about 2.5 feet to reach the rainbar of my OHF. Do you guys think i'll be fine? Advice is much needed and appreciated. Thank you!

But it's current flow rate is probably below 3000L/H due to head loss and i'm trying to get an increased turnover for my tank. I usually like 10x although most hobbyists only go for 6x. Dilemma!

I have heard of rio 20 which overflow 5foot ohf w 12 trays. So I would probably advise you to get 17hf? Also agree tom800 is v good pump for 422.

Whoa! That's scary. Okay now that you've said that, i'll decide against the 20HF then. Thanks Saphere!

I usually go for 10x turnover for better filtration. More of the water is being pushed through the media at a faster rate.

There are 2 sides of a coin bro.. Water flow faster through the media means less time for bacteria to act on the ammonia and nitrites.. High flowrate is good for mech filtration.. Slower flowrate better for biofiltration.. Do u think ponds have 10x flowrate or only 2x flowrate?? Food for thought..

Have heard of this as well, but mod Sparkase did question the theory before. For me, I rather save the money and get better media.

I have used both before.. 17hf is more appropriate imo.. 20hf more suitable for 5 ft
