LFC name 25-man travelling squad for Sydney friendly
Liverpool FC have confirmed a 25-man travelling squad for the post-season friendly with Sydney FC at ANZ Stadium on Wednesday.
Jürgen Klopp will take 21 first-team players and four club legends – Daniel Agger, Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard and Steve McManaman – to Sydney for the match, which forms part of the club’s 125th anniversary celebrations. All but three of the squad selected for Sunday’s final Premier League game of the campaign are set to travel on Monday night, having secured a top-four finish with the 3-0 win over Middlesbrough at Anfield. The strong selection includes Roberto Firmino, Lucas Leiva, vice-captain James Milner, Divock Origi, Daniel Sturridge and Georginio Wijnaldum – who will join forces with four Reds greats in an LFC first. Liverpool FC travelling squad Karius, Mignolet, Clyne, Alexander-Arnold, Randall, Matip, Gomez, Lovren, Klavan, Milner, Moreno, Gerrard, McManaman, Lucas, Stewart, Lallana, Wijnaldum, Wilson, Firmino, Sturridge, Origi, Woodburn, Brewster, Agger, Carragher. Fans outside Australia and New Zealand can watch the match live. Reds captain Jordan Henderson will not make the journey, as he continues to recover from a foot injury and targets a successful return in time for pre-season. “I’m definitely going in the right way. I feel probably the best I’ve felt throughout my injury so far,” he told Liverpoolfc.com. “It’s a little bit too late now the season has finished, but I’ve got all summer to get back to where I want to be. So come pre-season, I should be OK.” Emre Can and Philippe Coutinho have been left out of the squad due to forthcoming international commitments – at the Confederations Cup in Russia and with Brazil in Melbourne respectively. |

Philippe Coutinho tops LFC scoring chart for 2016-17
Philippe Coutinho ended the season as Liverpool's leading goalscorer after his free-kick strike against Middlesbrough on the final day at Anfield. The No.10 doubled his team’s advantage in the Premier League clash with a precise low set-piece beyond the reach of the goalkeeper, as Jürgen Klopp’s side secured a top-four finish. Following up his brace at West Ham United the previous weekend, Coutinho therefore pipped Sadio Mane to top the Reds scoring chart for 2016-17 with 14 to the Senegalese’s 13. His compatriot Roberto Firmino was third with a dozen goals, ahead of Divock Origi (11) and Adam Lallana – whose effort on Sunday increased his tally to eight.
