Yes they are reserved.. but did not ask them where they come from..

They are stressed bcoz they are shared a small area partition of three in a 2ft tank.

You also into Frontosas bro?

No offence here.
But usually when asked about the origins, the answer will be just plain Africa or the lfs owner will give u a blank look.

Last time there was a LFS called KingFisher, located at Geylang. That owner really knew his stuffs about fishes, plants, equipments etc.
So i think how deep their knowledge is depends on whether they treat it more like a business or hobby.
I personally feel if treated too much like a hobby, the business will not last.

none taken. i went down to qh a few months back, i asked two random staff, both confidently said "taiwan" and i left [these two staffs know their fish well, sadly not the reply i wanna hear]

i went to c328 last month, auntie smiled and said "not sure, we asked but the supplier didnt say much... all we know these frontosa are more blue so they are nicer. these are blue frontosa" [auntie wants to know but supplier dont know?]

i went to Y618 a few days back.... i got the best answer...
"boss! i heard you selling zaire frontosa is it? $58 to $68 depending on size?"
"huh? frontosa in the tank behind, $6 one..."
"no no, i heard got better ones about $58 to $68 leh... the blue frontosa"
"$50-60? all my frontosa blue leh you looking for big ones is it? we dont have, got to order" [owner of the shop doesnt even know they selling the fish???]
[anyone else saw zaires at y618 too?]

jack_dempsey, you are right. most people thinks that these tangans originate from africa, so their first reply is "africa"... though their answer is correct, there are many breeders around the world now. it just so happen that many of us consciously avoid tangans that come in from taiwan for some particular reason. so we always ask "which country it came from?" hoping that "taiwan" will not pop out. 99% of the time, we already know the answer... but we just cant help asking in hope that maybe, sometimes, the answer is different

since zaire moba is so rare of late, i am checking out all zaires to see if they look decent. i have accepted this fact and may look at setting up a tank of "zaire with no collection point". i am giving up and giving in slowly that in post#40, i also mentioned that even if "pale or stress is all right as long as there are no major defects."

that said, even if they came in from taiwan... bo pian also... at least must look decent lah. still zaires afterall...

Do u think that frontosa from a specialised shop in bkk, is trustworthy? They claimed that these fishes are breed by them locally, where they bought parent fish from overseas. Not only do they have pure breed ones, they also xbreed some like burundi x moba/ kampapa. Recently, i saw a batch of zambia and samazi there. But dunno how to spot the difference, only buy the price they set. This shop also supply some fishes to some LFS here, including a specialised LFS here which had already close down.

I am not sure how true it is, but that was what they claimed to be.
