My two cents;
Quote:
Perhaps it is his personality to give his views in that manner. A govt scholar who studied economics @ Oxford, who had headed economic and manpower planning in the Minsistry of Trade and Industry will know the consequences for mentioning about "OB" area. TJS can choose to elude the issue altogether or sugar-coat his reply to stay out of possible trouble. Btw the ISA allows for detention without trial which any other forms of the law could not. If the accused can be proven guilty of whatsoever charges brought up against them in the courts, their respective sentences will not be as harsh as those provided under the ISA. So perhaps the issue here is that is it justified that mostly political opponents to the PAP were put away for as long as 32 years (Nelson Mandela got 30 years in South Africa) and released at the time when they no longer are a threat to the MIW. Quote:
Someone like TLH who merely was concerned about the well being of Chinese educated S'poreans and the preservation of the Chinese culture (what the MIW is doing now), did an Indian dance in a Hindu temple, has Muslim friends and has a daughter who is a Christian can be labelled as, "Anti Christian-Chinese chauvinist". Quote:
Btw TLH and many MIW lawyers were good friends and even makan together. It is during one of those makan sessions that he mentioned about Chinese educated ppl having to work under English educated ppl and most top position in the land happen to be Christians. This casual statement are later used against him. Remembered former president Devan Nair? When LKY choose him to be president, he was praised in the press as being a fighter, champion of the ppl, etc... But when Nair did not agree about ISA detention, he also has to cabut from Sg and labelled as a drunkard, etc... Why did LKY choose a "drunkard" to be our president What about Francis Seow the former president of the law society and also good friends with MIW lawyers. He also did not agreed abt ISA and stood as a WP candidate and also forced to cabut. When someone choose to cabut, they call him a coward and when someone who choose to stay, they will be sued until bankrupt (JBJ & Dr Chee). As long as a yes-man is a president (likely to be so), MIW will have an easy ride. Quote:
Also, he and PM will dialogue in private. There is no way we will become like a Taiwan-style parliament (like what MIW always scare us) because we Sgp are different mah. |
