pH pen - i just got mine today!

Bought mine from Y618 today, the brand is Hanna.. $36 only! Happy like bird...

Itz the most worthwhile investment for me this year... beats the "longterm CO2 indicator" i bought earlier. That lousy inverted plastic can-like thingy will leak the indicator chemical under water pressure and is not very accurate..

Opps... sorry...

I juz find the prospect of getting pH readings accurate to 0.1 very exciting... used to get accuracy of only 0.5 using the Sera test kit...

Yah true, i'm using tetra kit & I find them lousy. Maybe I should get a ph pen too.

$36. that's very cheap i must say though it's .1 accuracy.

does the reading stable? i mean does it show something like:

6.5->6.4->6.5->6.4->6.5->6.4->6.5->6.4->6.5->6.4->...

so cheap!!!

but i juz bought a ph tester... that one use finish first...

With this pH pen, now you are in another era already.........

B4 you use, rem to get a pH 7.0 buffer solution to calibrate your pen first. Rem to calibrate once every 3 mths to ensure accuracy in readings. The calibration fluid cannot be reused once you have used, have to throw away.

Itz pretty stable I must say, occasional fluctuations of .1 like u mentioned, maybe 10 secs change once... i put it into my pH 7.0 buffer solution and it read a constant 7.1 (probably i polluted the solution slightly due to washing of the holding container with tap water) without change.

Yep, I got a pack of the pH 7.01 solution from petmart yesterday, $3. Y618 doesn't have it in stock.. weird.

For 2 purposes -

1) calibration
2) storage - instructions say to pour some into the cap before storing the test pen

I was told by my former sec school science lab technician (i called him previously seeking advice on whether to invest in a pH probe or testpen) that it must be calibrated after every use! Well at least that's what they do for the school's equipment, coz it will supposely "run accuracy" everytime it is used.

But i have no $$$ to buy so many packs of the pH buffer solution... will distilled water from the science lab serve the same purpose?
