afaik, telco only knows where the phone by which cell sector(s) the phone connects to. Quote:
afaik the new IU is gps based. To get better location accuracy extra beacons may be used to augment the GPS ( eg Differential GPS). where this is not possible eg high interference etc Inertial Navigation System may be used. This is a dead reckoning system using gyros ( compass ) and accelerometers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Differential_GPS https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inerti...igation_system Some speculation. Most probably the new IU does much more than the present IU. Since there is post pay system, it means the chargeable record will be stored within the IU and uploaded/sync with backend when there is data connection. If done this way, privacy is lost only on charegable routes. The new IU will hold exception records also, like if the IU is switched off, or if the IU cannot connect to the GPS system but the car has been moving for a long time ( INS). This is for fraud detection. Disable IU Fraud Hence the vehicle cannot be driven into basement carpark where there is no GPS and switched off without being detected ( needs a small battery to keep the IU alive) This will be logged and also detected at enforcement points. Swapped IU Fraud Probably at enforcement points and/or govt carparks Last edited by richardg; 10-03-2016 at 09:15 AM. |

No plans yet to price road usage islandwide under next-gen ERP system: Khaw
BYKENNETH CHENG kennethcjw@mediacorp.com.sg PUBLISHED:*3:17 PM, MARCH 14, 2016 SINGAPORE — While the next-generation Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) system — slated for implementation from 2020 — allows for islandwide coverage, the Government’s intent for the moment is to price only congested roads, Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan said in Parliament on Monday (March 14). Mr Khaw was answering a question by Member of Parliament Lee Bee Wah (Nee Soon GRC) on whether the new system would result in road pricing that is based on road use during office hours. The technology of the new system, Mr Khaw said, would allow the Government to implement congestion pricing based on the distance motorists travel, making it “fairer” to them. “For example, motorists who travel the full stretch of a congested road can be charged more than those who travel, say, only a part of it,” he said. Asked by Dr Lee whether plans are afoot to review the annual road tax and Certificate of Entitlement system to offset any additional costs incurred by motorists under the new system, Mr Khaw said it was too early to comment on the new system’s impact and whether adjustments should be made to any existing tax policy. expected what.... 2020 is what year? 2021 or 2022 we won't know la.... |

I feel that they still need to address the technical issues that is still outstanding before they install. They wont want ppl to complain that the system crap and not accurate right? Lost more money like that. Once installed, there is not turning back. |
