Agree on this, if there is a budget issue, then there is no choice, just choose the best one based on your budget.

Not to talk about sharing how good / bad of our guppy to others, so a good camera is still important.

agree with u Bro Vaynard...

as to canon or nikon, i have no comments. this is always a very touchy subject whenever pple talk abt equipment

i think a photographer's skill is just as important than equipment and brands like sony, pentax and olympus also got very solid cameras that are worth considering.

for taking fish, i think we have to look at some the challenges:

- it is often not bright enough
- fish swim very fast and need to capture a lot of small details
- the fish tank will reflect if using flash

so my thinking is that in order to get good shots for a DSLR system, the photographer will need
(a) tripod for stability
(b) more lights or powerful flash
(c) polarising filter to reduce the reflection from the glass
(d) macro lens to magnify and capture the details

the rest, is up to the photographer and the tech capability of the camera

wow.. shoot guppies need to use 5dmk2 ah..

get entry level DSLR or mid level will do.. get a macro lens and lots of practices and soon you will see good out come.. alot of times, its the photographer and not the camera.

another DSLR i would highly recommand is the pentax K-x, performance is comparable to mid level to high level entry DSLR from the Cs and Ns, if i would not have gotten my a300, i would have went for the K-x, its very cheap comparing to the quality it gives.

surf forums like clubsnap more, and you would soon find out that when it comes to DSLR, its not just only about canon and nikon.

no hard feelings to any canon or nikon users! and hope you guys don't get the wrong idea.. each brand got their pros and cons.

my 0.2cents worth.

If focus speed is the determine factor for taking a good photo of guppy, isn't it 1DMIII/IV is a better camera to be recommended for guppy? putting price aside.
