Actually, the speed of moss wall growing is related to the way you tie your mosses to the wall also. There are 1001 ways to do it. But which is the best? To me personally, the one that causes the least damage to the moss would be the best and fastest.

*Disclaimer: Context of having same water conditions/environment. Fastest in term of the growth speed of same moss sp. Bearing in mind that different moss grows in different speeds.

For Java Moss Wall, more work and effort is needed if you want to have them growing out nicely and packed. Basically is to place them uniformly in a single direction with overlappings. The securing method would be different also. You will need those plastic mesh with 1cm - 1.5cm holes as a front piece and the back piece can be anything from wire mesh to another plastic mesh with smaller holes.

For X-mas Moss & Taiwan moss, to have them growing out nicely, as much as you can, place them on the mesh in a single direction (tip facing up). Pack them close together, but not too close, get a nylon net as a front piece. Take a picture of it when it's 1 day old. Compare it 3 weeks later. It's really a WOW!!

Hi, when tying any moss to anything e.g. rock wood mesh, make sure the lines are spread evenly and it hold the moss at that position. The only type of moss to be careful are, erect moss. The texture of this moss is more like vegetable. it can snap or squash easily. So take care not to break it. Same as pellia family.

Depend on the size & qty of background plant, if too much then can't see the moss wall. Can add some if you like.
For me, it will be some mid plant or a piece of wood, stone so that it dun have the empty look.
