Manchester United have triggered their option on Ander Herrera's contract.

The Spain international's deal was due to finish next summer but he is now tied to the Old Trafford club until 2019.

Atletico Madrid have been showing interest in the 28-year-old but Herrera is happy in Manchester and wants to continue working with coach Jose Mourinho.

Herrera's representatives have held discussions with United over a longer contract but by taking up the extra year option now, the club protects their asset until talks resume.

The former Athletic Bilbao midfielder is a key performer for Mourinho even though the arrival of Nemanja Matic and return of Paul Pogba have restricted his first team starts this season.

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has avoided the prospect of a jail sentence in the United States by agreeing to pay compensation to the Beverly Hills police.

Lukaku, 24, was arrested in July after police responded to five noise complaints at the house he was renting.

The Belgian will pay $450 (£340) to reimburse police for the callouts.

That will mean the charge is reduced from a misdemeanour, which carries a maximum sentence of six months in jail.

Instead, Lukaku will be charged with a disturbance of the peace infraction, which carries a $100 (£76) fine plus other costs and penalties.

The incident happened the week before Lukaku joined Manchester United from Everton for an initial £75m.

The case will be heard again at Los Angeles Airport Courthouse on 18 December.

CL football against Basel.
Will JM play ZI and RL together at the start and sacrifice Mhki or Mata or play either one of them at the start?

Maybe he will start with Martial, Matic, Pogba and Rashford in the midfield supporting ZI and RL?

Though it looks very clear that Blind did not track his opponent well that allows the last minute goal, I agree with JM that we should not blame him for this loss. In the first half, had our strikers been more clinical we would have been comfortably ahead

With the chances we had, should buried the opponent, but we always makes it harder for ourselves at times

Forget to add that Damian needs to practise more on his crossing from the wing. Getting into good position on the wing but sending aimless looking ball or wayward crosses equate to nothing.
