No3 Results, Salifert vs Sera - Why my coral dying!!
My coral keep on dying after bought within 3 weeks.
Tested Po4, MG , Ca , No3 , NO2, etc etc. Now i zoom into NO3 part first, Using used Sera NO3, result between 5 to 10 mg/L Someone said Salifert very good. I don't believe, the result should + - 5 to 10 the most. After a few mths , i decided to buy a try, damm expensive, WOW, above 100 mg/L (100ppm) Today result for NO3 Sera = still between 5 to 10 mg/L Salifert = more than 100 Mg/L Does anyone know which brand gave more accuary? i mean other brand. want to buy somemore |

Not necessary for fishes to die, some fishes may be able to take the high nitrate waters. Corals, depending on which specie, are not able to take high nitrates like fish.
Sera testkits, from what i understand, can be inaccurate based on other user's feedback. You can always buy another brand of testkits to try and see what's the results. So far, i believe Salifert is relatively accurate. An alternative to buying would be to use another nitrate testkit from another marine hobbyist to test your water.

So far Salifert very reliable.
But for Nitrate ,No3 testing you can also try Instant Ocean. Very easy to use and accurate. |

you did not specify what type of corals. Salifert is the most commonly used testkit and often taken as the standard testkit to use.

Nitrates may not be a big problem, but its still a problem. This depends greatly on the type of fish/coral you are keeping. Some corals do not do well in high nitrate waters.
Like for my current 2ft tank, i have relatively high nitrates(can't remember exact level but its more than 20ppm) but i am still able to keep my false percula and mushroom corals successfully. Of course, there is more to water quality than just nitrates in the marine hobby. There maybe a large amount of explanations as to why your corals keep dying like insufficient light, unsuitable environmental conditions, these corals simply cannot thrive in the home aquarium etc..

my thoughts.....hopes it helps
Hello bro so sorry to hear that your coral had all gone up the lorry!!
One thing you should know is that salifert is a company that produces test kits which are meant industrial used even before it started its ranges of test kit for the aquarium market. So I thoughts are that it should have a high standard tp mainten in terms of accuarcy. |
