Default How to process the plant bought from LFS

Normally when you buy the plant from LFS, they are tied on a ugly block of wood with the roots wound ard. So how do you process it and plant it in the tank.
Take java ferns for example.

Or do you ignore and dump the whole thing inside the tank?

Hi, normally I would rinse it under a hose. There could be snail or unwanted pest hiding inside, or you can put in a pail for few day to let those unwanted pest craw out themselves. Not sure had anyone try chemical solution?

java ferns (all ferns and anubias) need their rizhomes exposed and tied onto something, so dun remove the wood. If the wood is ugly, hide it behind something, so you only see the plant.

You should dip the whole plant into bleach solution (ratio 1 part bleach to 20 part water) to kill algae etc, for a period of about 2mins. time varies with plant, more fragile plants maybe dun dip so long.

for java fern...it can be removed from the wood n re-tied them to a nice driftwood or simply buried only the wood in the sand but leave their rizhomes exposed.

I usually put new plant into pail with potasium permanganate, rinse it, soak with anti clorine (extra dose) for couples of hour.

always untie from wood and re-tie to my own nice driftwood
