Development of the Dragon
Hi Folks,
Since there have been so much interest and talk about the Dragon, I thought perhaps I should share my limited knowledge of how the dragon was developed. I happened to have access to some old dragon pics and was also aware of how it first began because that was also the time when I first knew Pichet A picture speaks a thousand words...so I'll just use some old photos to illustrate how it all began.... The is one of the early pic of the first generation of Dragon from an old betta magazine. Notice that the caudal is still traditional spade-tail. But thick irids are visible and although the irids may appear white in color, they are actually more towards silver and gold. For the Red Dragon version 2, after some further cross-breeding and selective inbreeding, caudal is shifting away from traditional PK and moving gradually towards the HMPK form. Once again, notice the thick shiny gold or silver irids. |

In addition, a small percentage of the Red Dragon V2 already possess the ideal HMPK form. And it is from these selected specimen which further development and perfection of the finnage was made. Furthermore, in the process of finnage development, the thai breeders also have to ensure that the ideal color of the Dragon is being preserved. In the early stage of development when the Dragon gene was not very pure, it is common to get fish as shown in the above pic where irids are not that thick. But they are still pretty nice fish. |
