Aro Tankmates (Members' Comments)
I am starting a series of FAQ mainly to help new hobbyists.
Let's start with simple ones, and move on to the topics that are more advanced. The idea is to provide some guide in those areas that cannot be found in books. Please give your comments, the most important guide is experience learnt through keeping aros. In this thread, the topic is: What are the tankmates that can be kept with arowanas, What are the advantages of keeping tankmates with aros What are the disadvantages of certain tankmates What are the risks and dangers of certain tankmates with aros Please use free format, no need to answer in the manner above, but give any relevant feedback and comment, and I will put them all together in a way that is easily accessible. |

advantage : help to clean up left over food, competing with aro for food as a result aro more active to fight for food & active swimming ard
disadvantage : snap all the food away until aro got not enough food to eat, also higher bioload risk : might attack aro, some species like rtc will outgrow aro in short period of time & might post great danger to juv aro |

1. Plecos
High bioload, spikes may harm aro's eyes, bottom feeders 2. KKP and other parrots Fast moving, tend to snatch food from aros, mid water swimmers, distract aro (disperse aggression) 3. SBKM Fast moving, tend to snatch food from aros, mid water swimmers, grow very fast, distract aro (disperse aggression) 4. Endies, and other birchirs Large endies may threaten small aros, bottom feeders, very efficient in cleaning leftover food 5. Red Tail catfish Grow very fast, bottom feeder, very efficient in cleaning leftover food, may threaten small aros 6. Snakeheads Surface to mid water swimmers, may threaten small aros, distract aro (disperse aggression) 7. Silver Dollars, Red Hooks, Emperor Hooks May nip fins of aros, fast swimmers, distract aro (disperse aggression) 8. Cichlids - Eartheaters, South/Central Americans, Africans 9. Tigrinus 10. FF May nip fins of aros, fast swimmers, distract aro (disperse aggression), clean tank of algae 11. Rays 12. Tin Foil Barbs 13. Kelahs |
