Default What's happening?

Help me!

My favorite Ryukin is behaving abnormally.

For the past three days, whenever she pause to rest, she would float with the head pointing upwards. When she does swim, she swims normally and is otherwise very active and eats normally too. It's only when she pauses to rest that she floats with the head pointing upwards.

Why is she doing that?? Is this a sign of imminent bladder problem? She does not floating upside-down though. Or is she too fat?

All other fishes are behaving normally and trust me, the water parameters are ok.

What's happening?

She does swims normally and is very active as long as she does not pause to rest. Once she pauses.... she floating pointing up! Is that a sign of any of those diseases you mentioned?

from what i read.. those r possible causes when they r not in the proper swiming position.. but i'm not sure what could be the cause for yours, would you like me to post in koivet forum to ask for help too?

I'm reading "Goldfish diseases and treatments" and it seems "Head Standing" is the closest description I can find:-

HEAD STANDING
1. Intestinal worms
2. Toxic water, do water changes.
3. Females that are spawning will do this when they are tired._ Head standing stops the males from driving them. Ryukins will also "tail stand" when worn out.
4. Frontal kidney damage
5. Gas from bacterial action on food

I'm ruling out 2 and 3 since my water parameters are ok. In fact, I did an unscheduled 100% change just this morning. I dun think she's spawning either.

1 and 5 sound possible. I had a Apple Snail that die and the Ryukin might have eaten part of its decomposed body! I did changed the water when the decomposed body slipped out of the shell.

I dun know what could caused kidney damage; I didnt bring her out drinking with me leh.

Will read up on treatment after this (taking a cigarette break now.)

Oh, then I'm very happy to say it's not swim bladder problem becoz she's eating as per usual. In fact, just fed her and she chiong for the pellets as if she's starving. Erm.. come to think about it, I didn't feed her at all today so she's probably very hungry.

Heng ah!

I've just did a salt bath for the Ryukin, and cleaned up everything including the canister.

For now ... she's still the same. The advise is to wait 24 hours and see how.

Tick tick tick...
