The main problems with discus in planted is the food they eat. We have to compromise between having super size discus and clean water.

Most discus keepers tend to pump their discus with food which in turn makes managing the water harder.

In fact keeping discus in planted is very challenging as they are big fishes which can produce a lot of waste if overfed. You know what happens next right?? Algae Bloom or bacteria boom and thats it to your planted.

I have yet to see big and healthy discus in planted setups in local LFS. Perhaps i haven seen enuff........ Anyway, i feel that the lower temp of planted tanks and high light intensity usually lead to poor appetite, stress and hence clamped fins. Have yet to match those wonderful setups in mags and webbies. Perhaps u will be kind enuff to share some pics of ur setup? Thanks

I do agree that currently my dicus fair better in bare tank . When my dicus was in the bare treatment tank , the colours were much vibrant . The moment they recovered and were returned to the planted tank , the colours darkened . But in terms of appetite, they are forever eating. But stress lines do show up every now and then about 3 - 4 days after water change . They seems OK with the strong light but i think they can do better with a more frequent water change but my PUB bills are climbing.

Just a suggestion, you may wish to shift your mayaca to just behind the left side of the wood
