Thanks Geck for sharing.
I think I saw & caught both of them in my tank finally. This one latest catch which I think is BES: This one smaller in build, more smooth looking, caudal fin with two extending tips with white vertical stripes markings, & got smaller blue eye that made it less mystical. And as for the original blue eye suttoni, think it existence is yet to be confirmed till now. I had seen that some has name this as BEC too. Could be same fish each with slight morph in genetic. Any one can share more informations on the two blue eyes? Quote:

Think I got the drift finally.
Retraced the postings & some of the internet links of the two fishes mixed. Think this article illustrate what's Gecko has mentioned:http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/v...p?f=13&t=37185 In summary: from the linked articles 1. Snout/head profile - Panaque suttonorum has a shorter snout and more rounded, dome like, head shape. Panaque cochliodon has a more elongated snout and has supraoccipital hump, tending towards a more 'angular' head. 2. Body odontodes and plates - Panaque suttonorum have a more armoured appearance. Their lateral row of odontodes look more prominent, as do the scutes/plates. Panaque cochliodon seem to generally have a more smooth appearance. 3. Body colour - Panaque suttonorum has a greyer body colour, whereas P. cochliodon is blacker/darker. 4. The dorsal fin on the panaque Cochliodon is more elevated than panaque Suttoni. 5. The blue eye on the Suttoni is not as dark as the Cochliodon 6. The size of them is also different for adult specimens, Suttoni reaches a 19-22" and I haven't seen any Cochliodon bigger than 12" So this BE1 is closer looking to BES: And this BE2 is the smaller variety of blue eye, a BEC: |
