Dirt stuck in the underflow
I noticed a few rotting stuff trapped in my underflow to overflow compartment. Problem is the gap between both glasses are less than 1cm. Maybe even lesser. Tried stick air tube inside also can not. The height of my tank is 2.5ft.
There are dead sw with white stuff growing around it, also dead silver dollars. being decomposed till left bones. but also a lot of brownish stuff. all these cant seem to be pushed up and just trapped there. I'm worried this will affect the quality of my water. Any suggestion to dig it up? |

Straighten a metal cloth hanger up and make a small hook like shape at one end. Use that hook to hook out those trapped stuffs in there through that small gap. I use to have this problem as well and it's a common issue.

I used a long ruler to break them into pieces last time.

Use a piece of thin cloth and push it in to the bottom with a metal ruler. But make sure u got a hose to suck out the dirt and debris immediately.
Alternatively, get a thin brush (those that is used to clean baby bottles or those u can find at lfs) to brush. But then again, depends on how high the debris is stuck. Cheapest will be metal hangers but it's a little flimsy sometimes. |
