Just to add-on to the following basic info and hope that can be useful for beginners of Discus keeping:

Taking care of Discus is not difficult at all, but, need discipline in water change routine to ensure good water at all time.

Following are how I take care of my Discus:

1. Keeping Discus in a bare tank.
2. Start with 3 to 5 for young Discus.
3. Water change once every two days at around 30% to 50% if possible and MUST use with good water conditional. Do note that the frequency of water change can be related to the grow rate as well.
4. Add the water conditional to the tank before topping up with tap water. If you can, keep over night stored water is the safest way.
5. Keep to the same feeding timing if possible and ensure no leftover food.
6. Do not over stock in a tank.
7. Regular deworming is needed if you are feeding beef/pork heart.
8. When u spend time enjoying the Discus, also observe if there is any abnormal behaviors or disease and seek for help immediately.

Hope the above helps and do enjoy Discus keeping

My objective is to share some basic knowledge of Discus keeping and hope to encourage new hobbyist to take up Discus keeping

The following is about filtration for the tank:

1. Most commonly is the use of sponge filter. Wash your sponge whenever you perform water change.

When washing the sponge, use the water from the tank. DO NOT use tap water to wash.

2. Using internal / external filter. Just make sure perform regular change of filter wool and use the correct media.

3. Using a sump tank. This is normally for a bigger tank. Use of a sump tank can reduce the frequency of water change.

All the above water filtration is of the objective to provide better water quality.

Do note that good water quality is one of the key factors affecting Discus grow rate.

Thanks for sharing. I do the same process except that I put the anti-chlorine and anti-chromite at the same time when adding new water right from the water tap. Also change water 50-80% every 2 day.

I used sponge filter and wash it directly from tap water but ensure squeeze dry and leave it aside and put it back to the tank after water change.
