How to store tubifex
Hi all, recently tried some live foods instead of pellets, (tubifex) I stored it in a container with a shallow amount of water, but the next day it was all cloudy and the water surface had film build up. Can they still be fed to my fish and is this normal? Or did I put too much water?
TIA |

Are the tubifex still alive? Did the water smell very bad?

I still feed but I wash with tank water first, filter out the live ones through nets. So far fish still alright. And I seperate into various container. The smaller the container is(lesser worms) the cleaner and fresher without the film and stench

This is an age old problem for home aquarists. Keeping tubifex worms alive for anything more than 4 days has become a huge problem for me as well. From various reading sources, keeping and multiplying tubifex worms requires a very large tank with constantly flowing water to ensure optimal water quality. Not many would dedicate a large tank with filter purely to cultivate tubifex worms and that's probably why not many people have success.
Personally, I know RonWill has had some success with keeping these worms alive for more than a week and he's trying to get them to stay alive for a month. Not sure how he's doing on that though. Many others might have luck as well.. |

you might want to try but i not sure of the outcome
i saw my fishshop owner using ice cube to cool down the worms water, basically he say will prolong the worms life. however i still think he dont hv to do this because everyday before evening, all sold out |

Some alive some dead I think. The water very cloudy and the film quite thick.
More water? I thought is should be least water as possible? I see the LFS put them always in very shallow water |

I think you can wash clean the tubi, try to get rid of as much dead ones as possible, then store in shallow aged water. If you have ketapang/black water put some. I store mine in a small container in the fridge with ketapang juice, last a few days w/o changing the water.
